Executive Management Team

RehabCare’s Executive Management Team is composed of the senior officers for each corporate department. The Executive Team meets monthly to develop and implement strategic direction for RehabCare and its subsidiaries.

Meet the RehabCare Executive Management Team

John Short, Ph.D. – President and CEO since May 2004; former Managing Partner of Phase 2 Consulting, a management and economic consulting firm for the healthcare industry and now a division of RehabCare; member of Board of Directors since 1991. Dr. Short received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Utah.

Don Adam – Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer; joined RehabCare in 1999 and previously headed RehabCare's Mergers & Acquisitions department. Prior to RehabCare, he was with U.S. Bank, Citibank and Bank One. Don holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Peter Doerner – Group Senior Vice President, joined RehabCare in 2004 as Senior Vice President, Business Development for the Hospital Rehabilitation Services division, and now leads RehabCare’s growth initiatives related to traditional products. He previously served as Executive Vice President for ARAMARK ServiceMaster and President of Freedom Professional Services LLC. Peter holds an MBA, as well as a BA in Computer Sciences.

Michael Garcia – Chief Human Resources Officer since March 2007. Michael previously served as Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer for Nexstar Financial Corp. (a subsidiary of Bank of America), and was Regional Director of Human Resources for Ernst and Young. Michael holds a master's degree in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Missouri — Columbia.

Kevin Gross – Senior Vice President of Operations, Hospitals; he is responsible for operations of RehabCare’s freestanding rehabilitation hospitals and long-term acute care hospitals (LTACHs). He has a 25-year career either consulting with hospitals or managing them. Previously, he was President of the Acute Care division of Universal Health Services, where he managed a 24-hospital system. He also has served as president of the Oklahoma division for Ardent Health Services and president of several hospitals. Kevin holds an MBA from University of Pennsylvania – The Wharton School.

Pat Henry – Executive Vice President, Operations; she is responsible for all contract therapy business, delivered primarily in skilled nursing facilities. She joined RehabCare in 1998, serving most recently as President, Contract Therapy Division; previously Director of Ancillary Operations for Vencor, Inc., Pat is a licensed speech pathologist.

Sean Maloney – Senior Vice President, Clinical Research & Development; joined RehabCare in 1992 to lead the recruiting department and most recently served as Senior Vice President Recruiting; previously held positions in strategic planning and marketing and holds a BS in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University.

Sharon Noe – Senior Vice President, Market Development; joined RehabCare in 1995 as Program Director in San Angelo, TX. She has also served as Senior Vice President of Operations and has been involved in freestanding hospital development and managed care. Sharon currently participates in business development through market analyses, sales, joint venture development, and strategic acquisition opportunities. She has a BS in Biology.

Alan Sauber – Senior Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs; joined RehabCare in 2000, serving as Senior Vice President, Business Development, Contract Therapy Division; previously COO of a rehabilitation subsidiary of Centennial Healthcare. Alan is a licensed physical therapist and holds an MBA from Northeastern University.

Jay Shreiner – Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer since March 2006; formerly CFO, Vice President Finance and Administration, for several private companies within Austin Ventures’ portfolio of companies and CFO of Newgistics, Inc. He holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.

Dave Totaro – Senior Vice President Marketing and Communications since joining RehabCare in September 2002; previously Chief Brand Officer of Park Place Entertainment and Chief Marketing Officer for Caesars Entertainment, Inc. He has an MBA in marketing from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania and an A.B. from Dickinson College.

Mary Pat Welc –Senior Vice President, Operations; joined RehabCare in 1996 as a Program Services Consultant. She is responsible for all hospital-based and outpatient rehabilitation. She holds a Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Northern Illinois University and an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency.

Patricia Williams – Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since November 2007. Patricia previously served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Thermadyne Holdings Corporation and was an Associate at the international law firm of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal and the regional firm of Gallop, Johnson & Neuman. She received her J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law and has a B.S. in political science.
