Eddie Bostick, LPTA
National Park Medical Center Rehabilitation Program, Hot Springs, AR
Contributed by Jana Knor, Program Director
Eddie has always gone above and beyond the call of duty. When his RPT returned to India to get married, Eddie stepped in to ensure the integrity of our program. He made sure all of the coverage staff we had coming in and out were educated on everything they needed to treat the patients. He would follow behind them to check that they had filled out their paperwork as required, and he put in extra hours just to make sure everything the patients needed was completed. On weekends, he would call in to see if the coverage staff had any questions and that things were running smoothly.
Eddie is someone that when I instructed the staff on the monitoring of the three-hour rule, he organized the remaining therapists and, with their help, decided on the best course of action to ensure we were in compliance without adding extra work to anyone's already busy schedule.
Nancy Elder, PT, Westward Trails, Nacogdoches, TX

Recently, Nancy, one of our on-call PTs, was asked to cover for the Program Coordinator and full-time PTA at Westward Trails while they took a week of PDO. This meant continuing to provide patient evaluations, treating the PT patients and handling any issues that came up. Of course, the State Department of Health walked in for their annual survey during this week!
Nancy was a real champion. She juggled scheduling staff, attending meetings and patient care, all while attending to a surveyor with countless questions.
During the week she was faced with a difficult situation of finding an OT for a patient who needed an evaluation for a hand contracture, which has to be done by an OT. Our OT for this building is also our PC, who was out of town on vacation. The only available on-call OT was scheduled to come in but called to say she couldn't make it for personal reasons. Nancy absolutely insisted the evaluation be done that morning and offered to help with the personal issue so that the OT could have time to do the eval. It worked out that the eval was completed and services were provided. But this would not have happened without Nancy's tenacity. You can't buy that kind of dedication!
